About Me
Hello. I’m Bob Gonzales—a sinner saved by God’s grace through Christ’s atoning work on the cross. I have served as pastor of four Baptist congregations and, since 2005, have been the Academic Dean and a professor at Reformed Baptist Seminary. I hold a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Theology and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Old Testament Interpretation from Bob Jones University. I am the author of Where Sin Abounds: The Spread of Sin and the Curse in Genesis with Special Focus on the Patriarchal Narratives and editor/contributor of The Confessing Baptist: Essays on the Use of Creeds in Baptist Faith and Life. I have also contributed articles to the Reformed Baptist Theological Review, The Founders Journal, and the Westminster Theological Journal. My wife, Becky, and I reside in Florida, and we are blessed with five wonderful children.
About the Blog
It Is Written exists to promote the Reformation doctrine of sola Scriptura (Scripture alone) and its corollary principle, semper reformanda (always reforming). My theological orientation is broadly Reformed and Baptist. More fundamentally, however, I am a Bible-believing Christian who affirms the verbal and plenary inspiration of the Old and New Testaments of Holy Scripture (the sixty-six books) in their original autographs. I believe the Scriptures are infallible and inerrant in all their parts and therefore trustworthy and authoritative in everything they affirm—whether concerning history, science, doctrine, ethics, religious practice, or any other subject. Moreover, I believe that salvation has always been and will always be by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. These convictions are articulated clearly in the great Reformed confessions of faith, especially the London Baptist Confession of Faith of 1689, which serves as the confessional standard of the seminary where I teach. At the same time, I do not believe that the Holy Spirit’s work of illuminating the church ceased in the seventeenth century. He continues to instruct the church, and I continue to learn more of God’s Word, even through engagement with other theological traditions.
My prayer and hope is that God would be pleased to use the content of this blog to promote a deeper commitment to the supremacy of Scripture over all of life, so that we might more fully glorify and enjoy Him in all that we do.
